Changes to the National Planning Policy Framework

As part of its strategy to create more inclusive public spaces, Make Space for Girls campaigns for changes in national policy that support local authorities, communities and developers to design spaces that welcome teenage girls. As part of this work, the charity submitted responses to the Government’s consultation on the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and the Design of Placemaking Planning Practice Guidance (December 2025 - March 2026). The charity focused on areas where it has strong evidence aligned with its mission, including achieving well-designed places, promoting healthy communities and the Public Sector Equality Duty, as well as guidance relating to public space design. Make Space for Girls is keen to hear from others who support the proposed changes and invites people to get in touch.
