Make Space for Us

Research by Women in Sport on the barriers girls face to enjoying parks.

This report establishes that girls use parks less than boys and face many barriers to being active outdoors. The report concludes that this comes from a lack of understanding of their needs in park design and the way society sees and treats them when they get there. These factors stifle enjoyment and limits girls' right to enjoy the wealth of health and wellbeing benefits of being active in the great outdoors.

By listening to girls this research found: twice as many girls as boys feel unsafe exercising in their local park (49% cf. 26%);

  • only 34% of girls enjoy exercising in their local park compared to 63% of boys; and
  • 59% of girls felt unwelcome in the park because the spaces were dominated by boys; and
  • twice as many girls as boys feel unsafe exercising in their local park (49% cf. 26%).

This report provides key insights into the barriers and needs to drive change if we want to create more inclusive parks and green spaces, where every girl can experience the joy and freedom of being outdoors.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
